Hi there. Newbie here.
![]() I have had an underbite all my life. In the last couple of years I've had nothing but trouble with my upper gums - infections etc. I've been given antibiotics which haven't worked. It doesn't help that I have Crohn's Disease which the antibiotics always irritates! Anyway! To cut a long story short, I was referred to a periodontist and he suggested that I have a complete upper plate. This would get rid of the chronic infection and also, 'cure' my underbite. Killing two birds with one stone is always good imo. Next Friday I'll be having all my back upper teeth taken out (I've only got four of those!) and the following Friday (the 13th!) I'll be having my four upper incisors out and an immediate denture fitted. Of course, I've already had impressions taken etc and have made it very clear with my dentist that my upper denture should close in front of my lower teeth. He's reassured me that this'll be done. ![]() My lower teeth are fine by the way, apart from the odd filling. Don't know if this is a 'success story' at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it will be in a couple of weeks. ![]() |

With the positive attitude you seem to have, I'm sure it will go well for you. Good luck with getting "cured"!!!

![]() I'm having four teeth out tomorrow (I've taken the day off work). I'm hoping to persuade the dentist to take the four front ones out so I can freak out my colleagues when I go back to work Monday! Heh heh.And then next Friday I'll be having the remainder out and my immediate denture fitted. I'll probably freak them out even more with a great big dazzling smile! ![]() |

![]() As I was hoping, he took out the four top front teeth. LOADS of injections needed to numb the area, but once it was numb it took him about a minute to take out the four teeth!!! I was impressed. My upper front jaw, lip and nose is still entirely numb. The bleeding's stopped and all seems OK. Next appointment, the final upper teeth will come out and my immediate denture will be fitted. Soon it'll be Smilesville, Arizona!!! ![]() |

All done!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I couldn't be happier with the results!!! I wanted to kiss my dentist's feet when I saw my new smile! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I shall post pics in the 'Before And After Pictures' thread. ![]() All's well btw - a little tenderness but I am getting very used to the immediate upper plate. A little bleeding throughout today, but nothing drastic. I've taken mild pain killers but could probably cope without them. I've even eaten a tin of beans'n'sausages! ![]() Can't wait to get to work on Monday and show my colleagues my big toothy grin! ![]() |

Holy cow! I'm sorry I hadn't read your thread before now, SXB, and all I can say is WOW. You made a very quick trip of it, didn't you? And did a splendid job, to boot!
I'm so glad to read stories like yours. They balance out the long, drawn-out ordeals like mine. ![]() Your new teeth look fantastic, too. Totally natural-looking and they match your lowers wonderfully. Congratulations!!! ![]() |

![]() My teeth do look wonderful I have to admit. They feel OK too. I accept that it'll be months before I'm totally comfortable with them, but that's fine. I'm patient. I took them out this morning for the first time since my saintly dentist put them in yesterday - there was lots of 'gunk' on the plate! I brushed them thoroughly with my regular toothbrush and rinsed my mouth with salt water. VERY soothing! I put them back in and it took a few minutes for them to settle in place. Had them back in for a couple of hours now and they feel fine. No pain. ![]() |

SB, (yeah, I read your explanation of your user name.
) you are doing SO well so soon. And what a great attitude considering what you've just been through! Now I feel bad for whining about my own experience. LOLYou're going to be a huge inspiration for many other people fearing the worst while waiting for their extractions and dentures. And with your sense of humor, you can help a lot of people. I hope you stick around here to do just that. And anyone that can spell Supercalifragilistic Expialidocious [sp] and admit to singing it should be kept around for entertainment value. ![]() |

Making sure to enunciate as clearly as possible the s's and r's. I'll be sticking around for quite a while I imagine. I still have a long way to go before my denture is something I can just take for granted (is that ever going to happen?!), so I'll probably have a load of questions! ![]() |
